DNA ‘barcode’ revealed in plants:
Finally revealed: the DNA ‘barcode’ in plants. A team of researchers has identified the gene that can be used to distinguish between the majorityof plants species on earth. This gene, which can be used to identify plants using a small sample, could lead to new ways of easily cataloguing different types of plants in areas like rainforest, according to the reaserchers.“It was our dream to find the gene in plants that could identify species. We found that a small gene, gene ‘matk’ located in the chloroplast of the plant, has enough variation to identify between species but is nearly identical in plants of the same species ,”lead researcher Vincent savolainen said
